James Clouston married Caroline Collier in Gateshead in 1845, they settled in South Shields. He was 41 she, 23. I've been pondering on this for years, after all men married in their early 20's so why did James leave it so late. He was a Mariner so maybe he was always at sea. There is another possibility. In 1827 a Mariner called James Clouston married Jane Pollard at St. Hilda's South Shields. They had two sons. Jane and the two boys died in 1834/4 and James disappeared. Is it possible that the two men are one and the same.
James' son Malcolm returned to Orkney to farm his Grandfather's land.
